Kebbi PDP denies endorsing APC governor for 2027 election, insists on party unity

The Kebbi State chapter of Nigeria's Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially refuted reports claiming it endorsed Governor Nasir Idris of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 governorship election. The party leadership insists on its unity and commitment to fielding its own candidates.

The Kebbi State PDP denies and rejects the rumour that it is supporting the APC and the APC governorship candidate in Kebbi State in the upcoming 2027 election.

This clarification follows a declaration by a faction of PDP stakeholders and supporters in Birnin Kebbi, led by former Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi, who announced their support for Governor Idris. This group cited his performance and dedication to the state's development as reasons for their decision.

However, PDP State Chairman Alhaji Usman Suru issued a statement asserting that the group's declaration does not represent the official stance of the party. Suru emphasized that the PDP is "one and united" and remains dedicated to its candidates for the 2027 general elections. He urged party members to disregard rumors suggesting the PDP has abandoned its platform or adopted the APC candidate, characterizing such reports as false and baseless.

I advise PDP members to focus on uniting the people and disregard all false and baseless rumours being spread by those who want to cause confusion. Such people have no control over the PDP in Kebbi State

Suru highlighted that the PDP has candidates prepared for all positions, including the state House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and the governorship. He stressed that the PDP is an independent and fully established political organization within the state. Meanwhile, Bamaiyi, speaking at the gathering supporting Governor Idris, clarified that his group intends to remain within the PDP, indicating their endorsement was a stakeholder decision rather than an official party resolution. Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Buhari Bala, also present, stated the group's decision was based on an assessment of the governor's "patriotic and selfless leadership."
