Keelung mayoral candidate proposes 'Grand Trek' to boost mountain-sea tourism

Keelung mayoral candidate Tong Tzu-wei has unveiled a vision to transform the northern Taiwanese city into a "mountain-sea recreational tourism city" through a concept called the "Keelung Grand Trek." The proposal aims to create a cohesive tourism experience by linking the city's mountainous areas, coastline, historical sites, and local lifestyle. Tong, who recently explored local attractions like the Liu Ming-chuan Tunnel, Dawulun Battery, and情人湖 (Lover's Lake) for a tourism program, emphasized that Keelung possesses significant tourism potential but lacks integrated planning and promotion. His "Keelung Grand Trek" initiative seeks to address this by creating a complete urban experience that connects mountains, sea, history, and daily life. Under the plan, the mountain route would begin at the Liu Ming-chuan Tunnel and its surroundings, focusing on improving visitor flow, enhancing scenic viewpoints, and increasing shuttle bus services. For the coastal areas, Tong proposes developing the stretch from Badouzi to Bishaa Fishing Port into a new recreational tourism zone. This would involve connecting sea views, fishing harbors, dining options, and local commerce, making Keelung's natural landscape a key attraction. Tong stressed that Keelung offers mountains, sea, history, and a unique harbor city atmosphere. He believes the future city government should integrate tour routes, transportation, guided services, and marketing efforts. This would reposition Keelung not just as the "rainy city" or known for its night market, but as a destination where visitors can slow down, explore in depth, and feel compelled to return. He invited the public to watch the program "Yi Tong Song Yi Xia" (Relaxing with Yi and Tong) to rediscover the charm of Keelung's mountain and coastal scenery through the eyes of the Liu Ming-chuan Tunnel, Dawulun Battery, and Lover's Lake.
