Keelung's 'Squid Season' Festival Offers Free Delicacies, Concerts, and Markets

Keelung, Taiwan, is celebrating its rich marine heritage with a vibrant "Squid Season" themed event held at Badouzi Fishing Harbor. The festival drew large crowds eager to participate in a variety of activities, including seafood auctions and a highly popular free tasting of freshly cooked squid.

The event is a cornerstone of Keelung's "Squid Month," an expanded initiative launched this July. Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang highlighted the month-long series of events, which aim to immerse visitors in the city's unique maritime culture. Beyond the themed days and weekly markets, the "Squid Month" also incorporates night fishing experiences and the "Keelung Fishing King" competition.

Attendees enjoyed a lively atmosphere with concerts from local artists and browsed through approximately 80 stalls at the featured market, offering local delicacies, cultural products, and specialty goods. The free squid tasting, provided by the Keelung Fishermen's Association, saw long queues, with participants praising the freshness and flavor of the locally caught seafood. The "Keelung Fishing King" competition crowned winners in squid, mackerel, and hairtail categories, further promoting local fishing culture and Keelung's abundant marine resources.
