Keiko Fujimori begins Peru government transition with technical team appointment

President-elect Keiko Fujimori has officially begun Peru's government transition process by appointing economist Marco Vinelli as the technical lead for the handover. Vinelli previously headed Fujimori's campaign program.

The announcement came shortly after electoral authorities finalized and proclaimed the official election results. Speaking from the Fuerza Popular party headquarters, Fujimori stated that the presidency's office has been activated. Vinelli will share management of this office with Miguel Torres, the incoming second vice president. The office's primary role will be to evaluate the current administrative, financial, and operational state of each executive ministry prior to the official inauguration.

Fujimori, daughter of former President Alberto Fujimori, outlined the technical team's strategic priorities. These include developing a detailed diagnosis of state resources and identifying urgent national issues. The team will also focus on administrative continuity, identifying successful projects from previous administrations for continuation, and restructuring deficient plans. A key objective is the modernization of the state through digitalization, reducing bureaucratic procedures, and enhancing transparency in public decision-making.

The transition's validation occurred after the National Elections Jury (JNE), Peru's highest electoral body, definitively approved the vote count for the presidential runoff. This resolution followed the dismissal of appeals filed by left-wing candidate Roberto Sánchez, who alleged irregularities and sought to nullify votes from abroad. The JNE's final tally showed Fujimori securing 50.135% of the valid votes, totaling 9,223,396 ballots. Sánchez received 49.865%, with a narrow difference of 49,641 votes separating the candidates.
