Keir Starmer has announced his resignation as leader of the Labour Party and as British Prime Minister. Speaking outside his Downing Street office, Starmer reflected on his tenure, which began two years ago when he became the first Labour prime minister in 14 years. He stated that his party had already provided the answer to whether he was the right person to lead them into the next election, an answer he accepted "with good grace."

He also noted a social media ban for young people and a decrease in migrant boat crossings, asserting that Britain's international reputation had been restored.

The process for selecting a new leader will begin soon, with applications opening on July 9. The succession is expected to be finalized by September, when Parliament resumes. Starmer, who informed King Charles of his decision, pledged his full support to his successor. While he appeared composed during his speech, his voice visibly trembled when thanking his family, recalling the moment he first entered Downing Street as one of the proudest of his life.
