'Kick Argentina Out of the World Cup' Petition Nears Guinness World Record

A viral online petition demanding Argentina's permanent exclusion from the FIFA World Cup has amassed over 23 million signatures, nearing a Guinness World Record. The movement surged in popularity following the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, where Spain secured a 1-0 victory over Argentina in extra time.

FIFA has confirmed it is investigating incidents that occurred post-match, involving several Argentine players and officials. Reports indicate altercations with Spanish players, including allegations that Nahuel Molina appeared to throw a punch at Spain captain Rodri, and Leandro Paredes clashed with defender Eric Garcia. Assistant coach Roberto Ayala was also reportedly involved.

A FIFA ethics prosecutor has been appointed to review the incidents, which could involve violations of conduct standards and bringing football into disrepute. The petition, titled "Argentina Out," also alleges bias from FIFA and match officials in favor of Argentina and Lionel Messi, claiming the tournament's integrity was compromised.

The petition closed with 23,316,108 signatures, falling just short of the Guinness World Record of 24,319,181 signatures set by the Jubilee 2000 campaign in 1997. Organizers claimed over 23 million people from 170 countries signed the appeal in less than a week, stating, "FIFA ignored us but Spain delivered. Thank you Spain."
