Kidnapped Victim Dies as Security Forces Hunt Abductors in Ondo Forest

One of two people abducted on Friday in the Parubber community of Ondo State, Nigeria, has died. The deceased, whose identity was not disclosed, succumbed to stress while security operatives pursued their captors, according to Adetunji Adeleye, commander of the state security network, Amotekun.

The second victim was successfully rescued alive. The two individuals, who worked at a local livestock farm, were seized by masked gunmen armed with AK-47 rifles. The abductors subsequently demanded a ransom of 100 million Nigerian naira.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa had ordered Amotekun to ensure the victims' rescue. Adeleye stated that combined security efforts led to the rescue of the victims several kilometers from the crime scene, though the female victim could not be revived.

He added that the rescued man had been taken deep into the forest from the initial abduction site.

In related operations, Amotekun also apprehended a group specializing in kidnapping and rustling cattle from Fulani herdsmen in several local government areas, including Ore, Ode-Aye, Ofosu, and Omotosho. The arrested suspects, along with their collaborators, are accused of stealing cows and selling them at significantly reduced prices. The security network also paraded individuals charged with illegal possession of firearms and house vandalism.
