Kidnappers abduct veteran journalist’s son-in-law in Ogun, demand N500m ransom

Armed men abducted Oreoluwa Osunuga, the son-in-law of veteran journalist Ayo Akinyemi, on Sunday afternoon in Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State. Osunuga, who runs a poultry farm, was intercepted as he left his farm to buy fuel and deliver products. His abductors later contacted his family, demanding 500 million naira for his release.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the abduction and stated that efforts are underway to rescue Osunuga. The Commissioner of Police, Olubode Ojajuni, assured that an investigation is in progress and that there has been progress in the operation.

This incident adds to a series of recent kidnappings in Ogun State, raising alarm among residents and business operators in areas located away from major settlements. In July, two individuals were kidnapped in the Obafemi-Owode LGA and later freed after a ransom was paid. Previous police operations have also resulted in the killing of suspected kidnappers and the arrest of others, alongside the recovery of firearms and ransom money.
