Nigeria Immigration deploys passport intervention team to UK

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is dispatching a dedicated Passport Intervention Team to the United Kingdom to streamline the processing and issuance of passports for Nigerian citizens residing there. This initiative, ordered by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is set to commence on August 10, 2026.

The team will collaborate with the Nigerian High Commission in the UK to manage pending applications, new applications, and renewals. To ensure accessibility, the NIS stated that the intervention team will travel to various designated cities across the UK. This approach aims to allow eligible applicants in different regions to undergo enrollment and processing without needing to travel to a single central location.

The intervention is open to individuals with pending applications, first-time applicants, and those whose passports are due for renewal with less than a year remaining before expiry. Applicants are advised to have their completed forms and proof of payment ready during the enrollment process. The NIS clarified that all digital passport application channels, including the Contactless Passport Application System and the home-delivery service, will continue to function normally throughout this period.

As part of ongoing efforts to further ease and streamline passport applications for Nigerians in the diaspora, the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has directed the Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, to deploy a dedicated Passport Intervention Team from the Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters to the United Kingdom.
