Kidnapping Victim Arrested, Suspected of Involvement in Drug Syndicate

In a surprising turn of events, Malaysian police have arrested an individual who was recently a victim of a kidnapping involving a RM7 million ransom demand. The arrest was made under the Dangerous Drugs Act, Special Preventive Measures (LLPK) 1985, following police investigations that uncovered suspected involvement in a drug trafficking syndicate.

Datuk M. Kumar, Director of Bukit Aman's Criminal Investigation Department (CID), stated that investigations by the CID and the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) revealed elements connected to a drug distribution network within the kidnapping case. This led to the further action against the victim.

The 44-year-old victim was apprehended in Selangor and tested positive for drugs during an initial screening. He also has a previous record for commercial fraud. Police are still investigating the exact motive for the kidnapping, including potential links to proceeds from drug trafficking activities. They are also examining the victim's assets.

In a related development, police arrested two more local men, both in their 30s, believed to be connected to the kidnapping. One of these new suspects is a former police officer who was dismissed in 2023 due to drug-related offenses. This brings the total number of individuals detained to eight: seven men and one woman. The two latest suspects are remanded for 10 days to assist investigations. Police are actively searching for several other individuals believed to be involved in the case.
