Kim Jong-hoon has been elected as the new leader of the Progressive Party, marking a significant shift for the political organization. In the party's 4th leadership election held on July 24, Kim secured a decisive victory with 62.51% of the vote, comfortably defeating his rival, Lee Sung-soo, who garnered 26.452%.

Kim, a former member of the 20th National Assembly and a two-term mayor of Dong-gu, Ulsan, has pledged to lead the party as a strong force against "runaway inequality." In addition to the leadership election, the Progressive Party also elected its Supreme Council members. All five candidates, Song Young-joo, Kim Hyun-jong, Shin Chang-hyun, Jeong Tae-hong, and Jang Jin-sook, who ran for the five available seats were confirmed as elected. Furthermore, Lee Hae-ji was elected as the leader of the Youth Progressive Party, following a vote where she was the sole candidate. The party has also transitioned from its previous co-leadership system to a single party leader structure with this new leadership.
