Kim Jong-un oversees test of 5,000-ton warship 'Kang Kon'

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un oversaw a significant military test on Friday, observing the trial of the 5,000-ton warship "Kang Kon." The exercise also included the launch of cruise missiles and electronic warfare equipment, according to state media KCNA.

The "Kang Kon" had a troubled launch last year, partially capsizing before its eyes, but has since been repaired. This time, the sea trials were reportedly successful, leading Kim to issue directives for its completion. KCNA reported that Kim "instructed to responsibly complete the warship's test course and hand it over to the navy within two months."

Images released by KCNA showed Kim, dressed in a yellow hat, observing the weapons test from the coast, surrounded by officials. Another image depicted the "Kang Kon" firing a missile at sea, with a plume of smoke rising. This test follows closely on the heels of another 5,000-ton warship, the "Choe Hyon," being launched less than two weeks prior.

The successful test of the "Kang Kon" marks a step forward after its previous mishap, demonstrating North Korea's continued focus on bolstering its naval capabilities through new constructions and advanced weaponry.
