Kim Min-jong Sues MC Mong for Defamation, Alleging False Claims

Singer and actor Kim Min-jong has sued rapper and producer MC Mong, accusing him of spreading false claims about his personal conduct during an internet broadcast.

Kim’s legal representatives, law firm Ohkims, said they filed the complaint against MC Mong, whose real name is Shin Dong-hyun, at Seoul’s Jongno Police Station on June 1. The complaint alleges a violation of South Korea’s law governing the use and protection of information and communications networks, specifically defamation.

MC Mong reportedly made the remarks during a livestream on May 18. According to Kim’s side, he suggested that Kim had been involved in illegal gambling, receiving money and buying off witnesses.

Kim’s representatives said the claims had no basis and harmed a reputation built over 38 years. They also said negotiations over Kim’s appearance in a future production and an advertising contract had been suspended, causing concrete financial and professional losses. Kim’s side said it would continue taking legal action in accordance with established principles, including a possible civil claim for damages.
