Kim Min-seok alleges Shincheonji interference in Democratic Party leadership race

Rep. Kim Min-seok is intensifying his accusations regarding the potential interference of the religious group Shincheonji in the upcoming leadership election of the Democratic Party of Korea.

Kim, a candidate for the party leadership, stated on Tuesday, "Those who intend to interfere in the Democratic Party's convention, whether they are leaders, mid-level officials, or general members, are better off not moving a single step." This follows his assertion during a preliminary joint speech on Monday that the essence of the convention lies in breaking a "secret alliance" between anti-Lee Jae-myung forces, divisive elements, and Shincheonji.

Kim alleged that a coalition, "explicit, implicit, or suggestive," has formed between anti-Lee factions, those exhibiting divisive behavior within the party's history, and Shincheonji, which he described as a "pseudo-religious group" with a history of political intervention for profit. He argued that these forces, though not necessarily unified, are collectively hindering the party's normal progression.

The lawmaker also directly criticized Rep. Chung Jin-sang, another leadership candidate, suggesting that the intensity of the convention in the first year of the administration is unnecessary. He attributed this to "problems with the previous leadership," implying a need for change. Kim framed his warnings as an effort to address these underlying issues within the party.
