Kindergarten operations uncertain due to roof leak

Kindergarten Reynisholt in Grafarholti, Reykjavik, faces disruption due to a minor roof leak requiring replacement of the top layer, according to Guðni Guðmundsson, office manager for construction and property services at the city.

The issue surfaced two weeks ago. Guðmundsson stated that documents are being finalized for procurement, and the project manager is collaborating closely with the kindergarten's director to minimize impact on its operations. However, an email from Elín Júlíana Sverrisdóttir, director of Reynisholt, to other kindergarten directors indicates the school cannot accommodate children as scheduled. Sverrisdóttir's message also pleaded with other directors to accommodate parents who had canceled their contracts with their current schools and now need to find new arrangements. Sverrisdóttir declined to comment further on the matter. Guðmundsson indicated that contractors will be engaged next week, with the roof work scheduled for completion by October 1. He acknowledged that the extent of disruption depends on the building's usability during construction but assured that efforts would be made to avoid service reductions.
