In a historic move, King Charles III is set to become the first modern British monarch to publicly reveal the amount of taxes he pays. This decision, described as personal by palace sources, is part of a wider initiative aimed at increasing transparency within the monarchy.

The tax payments for the 2024-2025 financial year are scheduled for publication on Thursday, accompanying the royal family's annual accounts. For the first time, the total tax sum corresponding to his income will be disclosed. This includes earnings from the Duchy of Lancaster, private investments, and revenues from his personal estates like Sandringham and Balmoral.

Buckingham Palace states this step is a strategic move towards modernization, prompted by significant pressure for greater financial openness, particularly in the wake of scandals involving Prince Andrew. While British monarchs are not legally obligated to pay income tax or inheritance tax, King Charles has voluntarily chosen to pay income and capital gains tax on profits from private property sales.
