King Felipe and Paraguayan president discuss global challenges and Ibero-American Summit

King Felipe VI of Spain and Paraguayan President Santiago Peña held a bilateral meeting in Lima, Peru, focusing on pressing global challenges and bilateral cooperation. The discussion occurred on the sidelines of the presidential inauguration in Peru, highlighting shared concerns and future collaboration.

President Peña shared on social media that the meeting addressed "great global challenges" facing their continents. Key topics included environmental cooperation in the face of current climate emergencies and the importance of energy transition. Peña specifically noted the potential for Spanish investment in solar projects within Paraguay, signaling a move towards renewable energy.

Furthermore, the leaders committed to a joint fight against organized crime, underscoring a shared security interest. They also defined "substantive issues" to further strengthen ties between Spain and Paraguay in anticipation of the Ibero-American Summit scheduled for November in Madrid.

This meeting follows previous discussions between the foreign ministers of Paraguay and Spain regarding the EU-Mercosur trade agreement and the upcoming summit. Paraguay had confirmed its participation at the highest level for the 30th Ibero-American Summit, which will convene under the theme "Ibero-America: together we build our community, together we project it into the future."
