Kingfish nightclub injury trial begins; accused pleads innocent

The trial for a severe injury case, stemming from an incident at the Kingfish nightclub in November 2024, commenced on June 4, 2026. The case involves a young woman, Dahiana Monserrat Benítez Ramos, 20, who lost her right eye after allegedly being hit by a glass.

The sole accused, Elián Fernando Tomás López Torres, 26, appeared before the Sentencing Court and declared his innocence. He stated that he was not responsible for the victim's injury. López Torres testified that the injury was caused by an elbow from another individual, identified only by the surname Villamayor, who was part of the victim's group.

López Torres recounted an altercation within the club, describing how he was allegedly pushed and then hit with a bottle on the head. He claimed he was trying to exit the venue after the incident, holding his glass, and was disoriented. He later learned that Dahiana had been injured.

The prosecution is led by prosecutor Maricel Orihuela, with lawyer Óscar Tuma representing the victim. The defense maintains that López Torres is not culpable for the severe injury sustained by Benítez Ramos.
