Kinmen launches direct shuttle to draw cross-strait travelers to eastern towns

Kinmen has launched a direct shuttle linking Shuitou Commercial Port with the island’s eastern side, in a trial designed to bring more mini-link travelers to Jinhu and Jinsha townships.

The service runs from Sept. 1 through Dec. 31. Buses leave the Shuitou Port Passenger Center at 10:30 a.m. and stop at Shanwai Station, Huguo Temple, Kinmen Hospital and Shamei Station. The return trip leaves Shamei at 3:30 p.m., allowing passengers to connect with an evening mini-link ferry back to Xiamen.

The Kinmen County Government said the trial combines direct and city buses with electric two-wheelers, shared transport, accommodation and Taiwan Tourist Shuttle services. The aim is to move visitors beyond the port area and turn tourist traffic into spending for local businesses.

Officials and local representatives said businesses had repeatedly complained that Jinsha and Jinhu, on the eastern side of the island, sit far from Shuitou on the western side. They said ordinary mini-link visitors, mainly Chinese tourists traveling independently, often find it difficult to reach the area. Many use small electric two-wheelers, but the county government also cited comfort and safety concerns over long-distance rides.

Travelers using the five-part transport voucher can take one free return trip on the direct shuttle. After having the voucher stamped, they can ride regular Kinmen city buses free for three days and receive half-price fares on designated half-day eastern routes operated by Taiwan Tourist Shuttle. The voucher also provides discounts on electric two-wheelers and guesthouses, along with access to shared-vehicle services for more flexible local travel.
