Longtan bus hub to begin operations on Sept. 30, with direct high-speed rail link to Hsinchu

A new bus hub beside the Longtan Interchange in Taoyuan is scheduled to begin service on Sept. 30, giving southern Taoyuan residents a direct public transport link to Hsinchu high-speed rail station.

The Taoyuan City Government established the Longtan Bus Hub on the second section of Dachang Road through a land lease. An opening ceremony is planned for Sept. 27. The facility will bring together intercity coaches, city buses, free buses and Taoyuan minibuses, with about 700 services entering and leaving on weekdays and 600 on weekends.

The transport department’s new Dalongzhu trunk route will connect Daxi and Longtan with Hsinchu high-speed rail station. The route is intended to help residents traveling south by high-speed rail avoid the longer trip to Taoyuan station. Five buses are expected to make 20 round trips a day, covering 43.8 kilometers in about 70 minutes.

Residents traveling to Taipei will be able to use Route 709 for transfers. The city will also add Taoyuan minibus services to reach areas that larger buses cannot easily serve. Three routes, serving Leofoo Village, the old town and the sports park, will launch with the hub. Routes to Dabeikeng and Sankeng are expected by the end of October.

The city is also arranging parking near the hub on land that remains agricultural. By the end of the year, officials plan to provide 52 spaces for cars and 15 for buses, along with motorcycle parking and YouBike stations.
