Kinmen Port Passenger Service Fee Cap May Rise to NT$460 to Cover Maintenance Costs

Kinmen County is seeking to significantly increase the passenger service fee at its port, raising the ceiling from NT$160 to NT$460. The proposal has been formally submitted to the Maritime and Port Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. County Deputy Magistrate Chen Hsiang-lin announced the submission, and Bureau Deputy Director Liu Chih-hung indicated that the process would be expedited. Once the announcement is complete, the new fee structure can be implemented.

The county government has submitted the case of raising the upper limit of the Kinmen business port passenger service fee from the current NT$160 to NT$460 to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications' Maritime and Port Bureau.

The substantial fee hike is intended to address the considerable annual maintenance costs associated with the Kinmen Port passenger transport center, which amount to nearly NT$100 million. This financial pressure appears to be the primary driver behind the proposed increase, aiming to ensure the facility's upkeep and operational efficiency. The move comes as the 'mini-three-links' shipping route, connecting Kinmen with mainland China, continues to operate.
