Traffic jams have become a daily reality for many people traveling through Kinshasa. During peak hours, long lines of vehicles bring several major routes in the capital to a standstill.

With traffic barely moving, some motorists are taking a dangerous shortcut: driving in the opposite direction in an effort to get around the congestion. The practice adds another risk to already difficult conditions on the city’s roads.
