KKP launches 18 Halal clinics in Eastern Indonesia to aid businesses

Indonesia's Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has officially inaugurated 18 Halal clinics across Eastern Indonesia, aiming to streamline the process for businesses seeking halal certification. These clinics will offer comprehensive support, ranging from initial consultations and document preparation to the final stages of certification.

According to I Nyoman Radiarta, Head of the KKP's Marine and Fisheries Human Resources Development Agency (BPPSDM KP), the establishment of these clinics is a strategic move to assist micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and processing groups involved in downstream activities. The goal is to ensure products meet halal standards, thereby increasing legal certainty, added value, and the overall competitiveness of marine and fishery products.

"We want to ensure that processed fishery products are not only halal but also bankable and highly competitive, enabling them to penetrate modern retail and export markets," Radiarta stated. The launch coincided with the inauguration of 84 Marine and Fisheries Extension Officers as Halal Product Assistants (PPH). These assistants will provide crucial support for halal certification services in seven provinces: Maluku, North Maluku, Papua, West Papua, Southwest Papua, South Papua, and Central Papua.

We want to ensure that processed fishery products are not only halal but also bankable and highly competitive, enabling them to penetrate modern retail and export markets.

Initially, the program will assist 300 MSMEs spread across 16 regencies and cities. This initiative gains further importance as mandatory halal certification for certain products is set to take effect in October 2026. The BPPSDM KP is collaborating with the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), particularly the Maluku BPJPH office, and utilizing the Free Halal Certification Program (SEHATI).

Radiarta expressed his hope that the newly appointed PPH would actively engage with MSMEs, ensuring more marine and fishery products from Eastern Indonesia achieve halal certainty and enhanced economic value. Beyond regulatory compliance, strengthening the halal ecosystem is viewed as integral to promoting downstream processing and increasing the value of these products. Concurrently, BPPSDM KP also inaugurated a Bridge & Engine Simulator facility at the Ambon Marine and Fisheries Training and Education Center (BPPP) to improve the competency and safety of fishing vessel crews.

We hope that the extension officers who have been appointed as Halal Product Assistants can become drivers in the field, directly assisting MSMEs and ensuring that more marine and fishery products in Eastern Indonesia have halal certainty and can increase their economic value.
