KLcube Builds AI Sign Language Service at Seoul Medical Center

Seoul Medical Center is taking a significant leap forward in accessibility with the implementation of KLcube's innovative AI sign language service. This initiative, part of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's 'Testbed Seoul' project, aims to dismantle communication barriers for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, ensuring they receive equitable access to healthcare services.

The newly introduced system integrates a 3D AI sign language avatar that provides guidance to various hospital facilities via QR codes. Patients can scan these codes with their smartphones to receive directions, displayed as animated sign language, to key areas like the information desk, registration counters, and examination rooms. Additionally, a dedicated kiosk offers hospital information and even dispenses queue numbers, all presented through the intuitive sign language avatar, making it accessible even for the elderly or those less familiar with digital technology.

What truly sets this service apart is the real-time, three-way video call functionality. This feature connects patients, hospital staff, and professional sign language interpreters, facilitating direct communication during consultations, explanations of medical conditions, treatment processes, and administrative procedures. This eliminates the previous need for pre-arranged interpreters or companions, drastically improving convenience and responsiveness. KLcube's vision extends beyond healthcare, with plans to deploy similar AI sign language solutions across various sectors, including public services, finance, and transportation, fostering a more inclusive society for all.
