Klopp Appointed Germany's New Head Coach on Four-Year Deal

Jurgen Klopp has officially taken the helm as Germany's new head coach, agreeing to a four-year contract with the German Football Association (DFB). The DFB announced the appointment at a press conference held at their Frankfurt campus. Klopp emerged as the DFB's top choice following Julian Nagelsmann's resignation, which occurred after Germany's disappointing performance at the World Cup, ending in a penalty shootout exit in the Round of 32. Negotiations with Klopp began in New York while the World Cup was still underway, with an agreement in principle announced on July 11. Klopp is expected to lead the team through the 2030 World Cup. His backroom staff is anticipated to include former Liverpool assistants Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, along with Sven Bender, who played under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund. Klopp departed Liverpool in 2024 after a successful nine-year tenure, citing a lack of energy. During his time at Liverpool, he secured the Champions League, Premier League, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup, and League Cup twice. Following a six-month break, he took on a role as Red Bull's head of global soccer, previously stating no intention to return to club management. Reports suggest the DFB made a €1 million donation to Red Bull's Wings for Life foundation to facilitate Klopp's release.
