KMT accused of spreading South China Sea misinformation, DPP says

Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) spokesperson Lin Chu-yin has strongly refuted claims by the opposition Kuomintang (KMT) that the government has ceded territory and national dignity in the South China Sea. The KMT had questioned the government's inaction after the Philippines established new maritime boundaries around the disputed Scarborough Shoal (Demarcado Reef) and submitted them to the United Nations.

Lin accused the KMT of being "habitual rumor-mongers" and a "center for fake news." She asserted that the KMT is deliberately omitting the fact that Taiwan and the Philippines have a long-standing fishery agreement that protects Taiwanese fishermen's rights in their exclusive economic zone. According to Lin, the KMT is selectively using partial information and online misinformation to mislead the public and erode confidence.

Lin emphasized that the KMT's claims are largely baseless, with only geographical terms being accurate.
