KMT nominates six incumbent mayors and magistrates for re-election

The Kuomintang (KMT) party has officially nominated six incumbent county magistrates and mayors to run for re-election, signaling a key step in their campaign strategy. Among those nominated is Nantou County Magistrate Hsu Shu-hua, who addressed the nomination as a procedural matter carrying significant responsibility.

"The nomination is just a formality, of course, it is also a responsibility," Hsu stated on July 22. "We will continue to do a good job of county affairs, polish the KMT's brand, and seek the people's support." The KMT's Central Standing Committee put forward the nominations, which include Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an, Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-cheng, Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang, Miaoli Magistrate Chung Tung-chin, Nantou Magistrate Hsu Shu-hua, and Lienchiang Magistrate Wang Chung-ming.

The nominations were originally planned for early July but were postponed due to typhoon activity, with the final ratification set to occur at the party's National Congress on July 25. Hsu emphasized that regardless of the timing, the focus remains on diligently performing county duties and reinforcing public confidence in the KMT's governance.

Her remarks underscore the party's effort to project stability and competence, aiming to retain power in these key local government positions. The KMT seeks to leverage the performance of its current officeholders to secure voter support for another term, highlighting their commitment to serving their constituents and upholding the party's image.
