Knife Scare on Taipei Metro Train Prompts Police Response; Suspect Identified

A report of a passenger possibly carrying a knife on a Taipei Metro train caused a stir on Tuesday afternoon, leading to a swift police response. The incident occurred on a Red Line train traveling from NTU Hospital Station towards Xiangshan Station around 5 p.m.

An alert passenger notified authorities, claiming to have seen a man in black clothing with what appeared to be a knife handle protruding from his person. Taipei's MRT police, along with local precinct officers, station staff, and security personnel, immediately boarded the train and searched the carriages and stations along the route.

Despite the initial report, officers found no evidence of a knife or any passengers in distress. The MRT system continued to operate without disruption. However, police are actively reviewing surveillance footage and have reportedly identified a suspect, described as wearing black clothing, who may have exposed a weapon. The investigation is ongoing to clarify the situation and apprehend the individual if necessary. Police reminded the public that carrying dangerous items without proper justification is illegal and emphasized the importance of safely concealing any sharp objects when using public transport.
