Police chief's son sentenced for vigilantism; restaurant to close

The son of Taiwan's Police Agency Director, Zhang Rongxing, has been handed a 55-day prison sentence, suspended for two years, following an incident where he and a friend were accused of vigilantism after apprehending a thief.

The restaurant operated by Zhang's son in Taichung has now reportedly displayed a "for sale" sign and is slated to close its doors at the end of July. This development has drawn attention, with many linking it to the recent legal troubles.

However, the restaurant management insists the closure is not a consequence of the legal case. They maintain it was a pre-arranged business decision to cease operations by the end of the month. The incident involved a man accused of theft who claimed he was held for over an hour, beaten with a bat, and scalded with hot soup, allegations denied by Zhang's son and his friend.

While Zhang Rongxing stated that his adult children are responsible for their own legal actions and that he has not interfered with the investigation, the timing of the restaurant's closure has inevitably sparked speculation about its connection to the legal proceedings.
