KOC drills 2,428 oil wells in 5 years

Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has reported a significant achievement in its exploration and production efforts, drilling a total of 2,428 crude oil wells over the five years leading up to March 31, 2026. An official report from Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) confirmed this success, noting that the most recent fiscal year saw the completion of 751 wells.

Alongside new drilling, KOC also undertook extensive maintenance and repair operations, addressing 2,034 crude oil wells within the same final fiscal year. The company also made strides in exploring Jurassic gas reservoirs, drilling 57 deep wells for exploration and development. This marks a notable increase from the 40 wells drilled for this purpose in the preceding fiscal year.

KOC attributes these accomplishments to its adoption of advanced technological solutions, continuous infrastructure development, and strengthened integration between reservoir management, wells, and surface facilities. The introduction of integrated automated drilling systems for Jurassic gas wells, enabling real-time connection between the wellbore and surface, has improved drilling standards, operational efficiency, and reduced drilling times.

Despite the intensive operational activity, the average production of non-associated gas by the end of the fiscal year fell below the approved annual target. The report attributes this shortfall to constraints beyond KOC's direct operational control. In a separate development, KOC completed a project to replace the low-pressure gas network in the Shuaiba Industrial Area, ensuring stable gas fuel supplies to critical facilities like the Ministry of Electricity's power generation plants.
