Kogi govt orders probe as four family members die after eating Amala

Tragedy has struck the Ihima community in Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria, where four members of a single family have reportedly died after consuming a local dish known as Amala.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths are currently under investigation by the state government, which has expressed deep concern over the incident. The situation took a more alarming turn when reports emerged that the family's dog also died after eating the same food, fueling speculation of food contamination or poisoning.

In response, the Kogi State Government has ordered an immediate probe into the fatalities. Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, stated that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed the Commissioner for Health to conduct a comprehensive investigation. The probe aims to ascertain whether the food was contaminated or if other medical or environmental factors contributed to the deaths.

"The Chief Servant is deeply concerned by this tragic incident and has directed the Commissioner for Health to immediately investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths, with particular attention to the possibility of food poisoning or food contamination," Fanwo quoted the governor as saying. The government has also mandated that relevant samples and evidence be examined according to public health procedures.

Governor Ododo extended his condolences to the bereaved family and the Ihima community, assuring residents that further information will be released once verified facts emerge from the ongoing investigation. The government urged residents to remain calm and avoid drawing premature conclusions.
