Kogi Police Chief Urges Youth to Reject Violence and Digital Thuggery

Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Kankarofi, has issued a strong appeal to the youth, urging them to decisively reject political violence, digital thuggery, misinformation, and criminality. Speaking at the command's commemoration of International Youth Day 2026, Kankarofi highlighted the day's theme, 'Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,' and the campaign theme, 'My Future Is Greater Than Political and Digital Thuggery.'

Kankarofi described young people as vital partners in fostering a safer society, noting that their energy, creativity, and digital prowess can be powerful tools for promoting peace. However, he cautioned that these same qualities could be exploited to sow division and incite violence if not used responsibly. The police command's initiatives, including a Youth Campaign Walk and Police-Youth Dialogue, aim to build trust and enhance communication between the police and young people.

The commissioner stressed the importance of responsible social media engagement, advising youths to verify information before sharing and to actively avoid spreading content that incites violence or hatred. He reminded them that online actions carry significant real-world consequences, urging caution. As future electoral activities approach, Kankarofi implored young Nigerians not to allow themselves to be manipulated into becoming agents of political violence, stating that no political ambition is worth sacrificing one's life, freedom, or future.

Kankarofi assured the youth that the command is committed to maintaining open communication channels with youth organizations and relevant bodies. He commended the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, for his support of initiatives that promote meaningful engagement between the Nigeria Police Force and young people. The commissioner reaffirmed the command's dedication to a policing system that values and actively involves young people in creating safer communities.
