Kogi strengthens China partnership for agro-industrial development

Kogi State is making significant strides in its agricultural development agenda by deepening its collaboration with China, a move poised to accelerate the implementation of its Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) program. This partnership underscores the state's commitment to transforming its agricultural sector into a robust engine for economic growth and job creation.

Central to the engagement is the development of a modern agricultural science and technology industrial park in Kogi State.

The SAPZ initiative is a comprehensive strategy designed not only to increase food production and processing capabilities but also to attract crucial private sector investment. Central to this collaboration is the planned development of a state-of-the-art agricultural science and technology industrial park. This park will serve as a hub for agro-processing, facilitate technology transfer, support equipment deployment, and foster enterprise incubation, all within the broader SAPZ framework.

The Kogi SAPZ structure comprises the Ajaokuta Agro-Industrial Hub, alongside Agricultural Transformation Centres in Anyigba, Alape, and Osara, as well as the Zariagi Agro-Air Hub.

With priority value chains including rice, maize, cassava, livestock, and poultry, the program aims to integrate existing farmer clusters with extensive farmland. The strategic cooperation agreement with Hezheng Holdings Group and Hezheng Digital Technology marks a critical transition from planning to execution. This partnership is expected to bring in credible technical partners and investors, positioning Kogi State as a leading agricultural and industrial hub in Nigeria and enhancing its export infrastructure.
