'Koka' granted bail over alleged threat to harm police officer and family

Kweku Osei Korankye Osei, a 48-year-old politician widely known as 'Koka,' has been granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court on charges of offensive conduct and threatening to harm a police officer and his family. Osei pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The alleged threats were made against Detective Chief Inspector David Anaba at the Regional Police Headquarters in Accra on May 13, 2026. According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, the incident occurred while Anaba was investigating a separate case involving an alleged threat of death reported against one Kennedy Ofori Anokye.

Anokye had reported to the Regional CID Headquarters accompanied by Osei and others to assist with the investigation. During their presence at the headquarters, the prosecution stated that members of the group were observed taking photographs and recording videos of Detective Chief Inspector Anaba without authorization. When questioned about permission from the Police Command, no satisfactory response was provided.

Subsequently, Osei allegedly gave a media interview that was circulated online. In the video, he is accused of threatening Anaba and his family, stating, "I will deal with you and your family," with the apparent intent to cause fear and breach the peace. The court admitted Osei to bail in the sum of GH¢200,000, requiring three sureties who must justify their property. He is scheduled to reappear in court on July 15, 2026.
