KOMSCO Issues Medals for 150th Anniversary of Kim Koo's Birth

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of independence activist Kim Koo, a date recognized by UNESCO, the Korea Minting, Security Printing & ID Card Operating Corp. (KOMSCO) has issued a special collection of two premium commemorative medals. These medals are designed to honor Kim Koo's legacy, particularly his advocacy for peace and respect for cultural diversity.

Crafted with KOMSCO's advanced minting techniques, typically used for circulating and commemorative coins, these medals aim to be high-quality collector's items. The collection includes a gold medal (Au999, 32mm, 15.55g, Proof) and a silver medal (Ag999, 40mm, 31.1g, Proof). Both medals feature intricate designs that reflect Kim Koo's life and philosophy.

The obverse side of the medals displays a portrait of Kim Koo in traditional white attire, alongside elements from his autobiography 'Baekbeom Ilji,' books, the Korean national flower mugunghwa, and maps of the Korean peninsula and the world. The reverse side is themed around Kim Koo's emphasis on 'the power of high culture,' incorporating a motif of glasses with the graphic '150th' and key phrases from his writings, including 'Baekbeom Ilji' and 'My Wish.'

KOMSCO is accepting pre-orders for these medals from August 14 until midnight on August 31 via its online shopping mall. KOMSCO President Seong Chang-hoon expressed that the company is honored to present these medals, hoping they will serve as an opportunity for people to reflect on Kim Koo's patriotic spirit and his dedication to culture and education.
