Koo likens summer mangoes to first love, then blasts DPP over pineapple exports

Kuomintang Chairwoman Cecilia Koo likened the taste of summer snow mangoes to the sweetness and sourness of first love during a visit to Taitung. She attended a press conference on the fruit's domestic and international sales achievements, expressing her fondness for the mango ice cream.

However, Koo's visit also had a strong political undertone. During the party's first action meeting in Taitung, she fiercely criticized the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government. Koo accused the DPP of completely cutting off cross-strait exchanges, disregarding the livelihoods of farmers, and creating export difficulties for Taitung's signature products like pineapple and sugar apples.

She alleged that the DPP government not only ignored efforts by the Taitung County Government and farmers' associations to overcome pest issues but also politically persecuted efforts to export the fruit. Koo specifically condemned the Mainland Affairs Council for allegedly disparaging pineapple and sugar apples and the Ministry of the Interior for spreading misinformation and suppression. She argued that Taiwan's economic miracle was built on foreign trade and that relying solely on the domestic market would not be profitable for fruit farmers.

The Mainland Affairs Council actually disliked pineapple and sugar apples, claiming Taiwanese people don't want to eat them.

Koo asserted that the KMT would persist in seeking larger markets for pineapple and sugar apples through cross-strait communication channels, calling the fruit an "ambassador for peace" for Taiwan. She rallied support for KMT-nominated county magistrate candidate Wu Hsiu-hua, emphasizing the party's strong leadership in Taitung and its commitment to defending the dignity of Taiwanese fruits.
