Kookmin University, National Police Agency Launch AI Policing Training Program

Kookmin University's Graduate School of Business and the National Police Agency have initiated a specialized training program aimed at cultivating experts in AI and data analysis for policing. The "2026 Policing AI and Data Analysis Expert Training Course" held its opening ceremony on July 2 at the university's business building.

This program, now in its fourth year since its inception in 2023, is designed to equip professionals with the skills to address on-site policing challenges through artificial intelligence and data analysis. The intensive two-month curriculum, running until September 4, will involve 25 selected individuals recommended by various police departments and evaluated on their research proposals.

Participants will undergo 120 hours of focused education, including theoretical and practical training delivered by Kookmin University's AI and data analysis faculty. The program also incorporates a mentoring-based project component. Professor Kang Hyun-mo, addressing the attendees at the ceremony, welcomed the participants and expressed anticipation for their ability to leverage the comprehensive curriculum, which covers the latest AI technologies, to make significant contributions by combining their field expertise with advanced technology.

The curriculum jointly developed by the National Police Agency's Future Policing Policy Bureau and Kookmin University's Graduate School of Business covers essential competencies for AI and data analysis specialists. This includes data collection, processing, visualization, inferential statistics, machine learning, deep learning, and AI agents. The program is structured into two weeks of intensive training followed by six weeks of in-depth project-based learning focused on solving real-world police issues.

Kookmin University has been operating a master's program in AI and Big Data since 2013, aiming to nurture practical AI and big data professionals. The university supports working professionals through a one-year weekend program and HyFlex learning, contributing to the development of AI and data specialists.
