Kovač’s Dortmund completes stunning comeback after trailing Hoffenheim 2-0

Borussia Dortmund appeared to be heading for defeat at Hoffenheim after falling two goals behind, but Niko Kovač’s team turned the match around in the final half hour and won 3-2.

Hoffenheim took the lead through Leon Avdullahu in the 45th minute. Tim Lemperle doubled the advantage nine minutes into the second half. Dortmund’s response began in the 61st minute, when Serhou Guirassy pulled one back.

Guirassy then set up Fabio Silva for the equalizer five minutes later. Dortmund completed the comeback in the 86th minute when Albian Hajdari accidentally deflected the ball into his own goal, despite having no opposing attacker around him and goalkeeper Baumann already positioned to catch it. Andrej Kramarić came on for Hoffenheim in the 73rd minute and received a yellow card seven minutes later.

Freiburg temporarily moved to the top of the standings with six points after beating Paderborn 1-0 through Maximilian Eggestein’s 26th-minute goal. Elversberg, making its Bundesliga debut, also maintained a perfect record after overturning a 3-1 deficit to beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-3. Bayer Leverkusen defeated Union Berlin 4-0, with Ezequiel Fernández, Facundo Medina, Patrik Schick and Ibrahim Maza scoring. Union, whose starting lineup included Josip Juranović and Marin Ljubičić, did not manage a shot on target.
