Kovin Municipality President: All forces deployed against wildfire amid misinformation

Violeta Ocokoljić, president of the Municipality of Kovin, confirmed that all available firefighting units, volunteer fire departments, Serbian Army personnel, and forestry workers are deployed to combat a significant wildfire in the Deliblatska Peščara. She emphasized that "superhuman efforts" are being made to bring the blaze under control, but acknowledged that strong winds and the current weather conditions are exacerbating the situation. Ocokoljić addressed public concerns, stating, "It is important for people to know that people are on the ground and maximum efforts are being made to extinguish this fire as quickly as possible." She specifically appealed to citizens to refrain from bringing food and water to the site, and to avoid spreading panic. Ocokoljić debunked rumors circulating online, such as claims that houses have burned or that there is a lack of water. She assured the public that the Municipal Emergency Situations Headquarters has provided all necessary accommodations, water, and food for the firefighting units. Furthermore, she advised against donating money, stating that the municipality and the state will compensate for any potential damages caused by the "elemental disaster."
