KPK Arrests Lombok Barat Regent After World Cup Viewing

Lombok Barat Regent Lalu Ahmad Zaini was arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on July 20, 2026, in connection with alleged corruption involving projects within the local government. The arrest occurred in the morning at Zaini's official residence, just hours after he was seen attending a World Cup final viewing event with local residents at Alun-alun Giri Menang Park.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed Zaini's apprehension, stating that the case is related to alleged illicit receipts by the regent concerning projects in Lombok Barat. During the operation, investigators seized cash in Indonesian Rupiah and various documents as evidence. The KPK has a maximum of 1x24 hours, as stipulated by the Criminal Procedure Code, to determine the legal status of those arrested in sting operations.
