KPK arrests Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro in Jakarta for corruption

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has apprehended Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro in Jakarta as part of an operation targeting alleged corruption. Widiyantoro is the 12th regional leader to be arrested by the KPK this year, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat graft among local authorities.

Anom and four other individuals were detained in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, and subsequently brought to the KPK headquarters for intensive questioning. In total, 21 people were apprehended across Pemalang, Purworejo, and Jakarta. Of these, 12 were transported to Jakarta for further investigation, including Anom's wife, Noor Faizah Maenofie.

During the operation, the KPK confiscated over Rp2 billion in cash, along with other evidence. The alleged corruption involves Anom's acceptance of bribes related to development projects and the illicit sale of regional secretary positions within the Pemalang regional government.

The KPK conducted a case review Wednesday night and has identified suspects who will face legal accountability. Further details regarding the operation and the full scope of the case are expected to be announced at a press conference on Thursday, July 30, 2026.
