KPK building smoke caused by fumigation, not fire

Thick smoke emanating from the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission's (KPK) Red and White Building in South Jakarta caused alarm on Saturday, but officials have clarified it was not a fire. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the smoke was a byproduct of fumigation activities conducted within the building.

Prasetyo explained that the building's protection system, designed to extinguish sparks from electronic devices, detected the smoke from the fogging process. This triggered the system, leading to the release of smoke and subsequent activation of alarms. The incident occurred in the UPS battery room located in the basement.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene after receiving a public report of a fire at 11:25 a.m. Jakarta time. Upon arrival, they worked to remove smoke from the basement battery room. While firefighters reported that the "fire has been put out," the KPK spokesperson's statement indicates no actual fire occurred, but rather a system activation due to the fumigation smoke.
