KPK Chief Discusses Possible Questioning of Bogor Regent

Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission has not ruled out questioning Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto, but its chairman said investigators are still working through the case in stages.

The KPK has not yet named a suspect because it is still using a general investigation order.

The commission has issued a general investigation order for the case in Bogor Regency. Acting KPK Investigation Director Achmad Taufik Husein said no suspect had been named because the inquiry remained at that stage, meaning investigators had not yet formally identified the parties involved or disclosed the case’s construction. He urged the public not to conclude that particular individuals had committed crimes before the legal process ended and the KPK released official information.

Information from an internal KPK source cited by CNN Indonesia said an activity in Bogor on Aug. 20 had been a sting operation. KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo rejected that description, saying officials had conducted “requests for information following up on a public complaint.” Several department heads were reportedly caught in the operation and some were questioned at the KPK’s headquarters. The agency also found and secured about 1.5 billion rupiah. The operation was reportedly aimed at Rudy, who is also a senior figure in the Gerindra Party.
