KPK Detains Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani

Jakarta, Indonesia -- The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detained Etik Suryani, the Regent of Sukoharjo, in connection with alleged extortion within the local government. Suryani was apprehended early Saturday morning following an intensive investigation as part of an anti-graft operation.

Alongside Suryani, the KPK also detained two other individuals: Richard Tri Handoko and Tri Mulyo, both identified as state civil servants within the Sukoharjo Regency administration. The operation, conducted in the Soloraya region of Central Java province, resulted in the seizure of significant assets, including precious metals and billions of rupiah in both local and foreign currencies.

The KPK is expected to provide a detailed account of the operation and the full scope of the alleged corruption later on Saturday. The detentions underscore the ongoing efforts by Indonesia's anti-corruption agency to combat graft within public institutions.
