KPK Issues 72 Investigation Orders in First Half of 2026 Amid Increased Sting Operations

Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has significantly ramped up its anti-corruption efforts, issuing 72 investigation orders in the first half of 2026. KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto highlighted this as a response to high public interest in law enforcement effectiveness.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) continues to move progressively. Throughout the first semester of 2026, the KPK has issued 72 Investigation Orders as the initial foundation for investigating various alleged criminal acts of corruption.

Budiyanto stated that the KPK is moving progressively, with these investigation orders forming the initial foundation for probing alleged corruption offenses. A major focus has been on the high intensity of sting operations, or Operasi Tangkap Tangan (OTT), which have ensnared numerous regional heads. He assured that the KPK acts impartially, proceeding to name suspects once sufficient evidence is gathered.

The commission's rigorous approach is evidenced by the 119 defendants currently undergoing trial proceedings. Furthermore, the KPK has advanced 76 cases to the prosecution stage (P-31), ensuring that investigations do not stall. This consistency extends through various judicial levels, with the KPK overseeing 52 District Court decisions, 4 High Court decisions, 2 Supreme Court decisions, and 16 Retrial processes.

This firm action is proven through consistent case handling, where throughout this semester there are 119 defendants currently being processed in trials.

Notably, the number of sting operations conducted in the first half of 2026 saw a substantial increase compared to the previous year. In the first half of 2025, only two such operations occurred, targeting the Kabupaten Ogan Komering Ulu and the province of Sumatera Utara. This year, the KPK conducted covert operations in 12 locations, leading to arrests in seven regional governments, including Pati, Madiun, Pekalongan, Rejang Lebong, Cilacap, Tulungagung, and Muara Enim. Operations also extended to tax offices, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, the Depok District Court, and the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Facilities.
