KPK probes money flow in forest area release case involving Kuansing Regent

Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is probing alleged illicit financial flows connected to the Regent of Kuantan Singingi (Kuansing), Suhardiman Amby. The investigation centers on suspicions of bribery related to the release of Protected Forest Areas (HPT).

According to the KPK, the funds Suhardiman allegedly received were part of the business profits (SHU) from local farmer cooperatives. This means farmers, who typically earn modest monthly incomes, may have had their earnings significantly reduced. The KPK is continuing to investigate whether these funds were distributed to other parties.

However, the KPK will continue to conduct further investigations regarding the alleged receipts, including whether they flowed to other parties.

This case is linked to regional projects that impact the community's livelihood. Kuansing's economy heavily relies on plantations, particularly palm oil, which generates substantial revenue. However, the region faces infrastructure challenges, with a significant portion of its roads in poor condition due to heavy logistics traffic.

Separately, Suhardiman is also under investigation for alleged bribery in a job-selling scheme. In April 2025, the Kuansing regional government held an auction for the Regional Secretary position. Suhardiman allegedly demanded a Toyota Land Cruiser SUV from candidates. One candidate, Zulkarnain, reportedly complied by purchasing the vehicle for Rp2.05 billion, using another individual's identity to secure the loan due to his financial profile.
