Kremlin propagandist threatens to split Germany again and calls for East Germany’s restoration

Russian television propagandist Vladimir Solovyov and his guests have taken the rhetoric against Germany to the point of discussing the country’s collapse and the restoration of East Germany.

On television, they raised the possibility that Russia could stop recognising the legitimacy of the present Federal Republic of Germany. They also discussed reviving the German Democratic Republic, the socialist East German state that existed until German reunification in 1990.

The comments came as relations between Moscow and Berlin deteriorated. German authorities officially blamed Moscow for a drone incident at Leipzig airport. Berlin also announced the closure of Russia’s Consulate General in Bonn and the termination of an agreement governing the Russian House in Berlin.

Russian propaganda and officials in Moscow continue to accuse Germany of adopting an increasingly hostile position and worsening tensions. Moscow responded to Berlin’s measures by summoning Germany’s chargé d’affaires, Bernd Finke, on Wednesday, one day after the German government announced its retaliatory steps.
