Kremlin: Ukraine's new army chief won't change front-line situation

The Kremlin asserted on Wednesday that the recent changes in Ukraine's military leadership will not impact the ongoing conflict on the front lines, where Russia claims to be making advances. The statement came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed army chief Oleksandr Syrskyi and appointed Mykhailo Drapati as his successor.

Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin's spokesperson, told reporters that the situation on the front is "well known" and that Russian armed forces are continuing their "offensive operations." He characterized the leadership change in Kyiv as "convulsions" within a "regime" that is "shaking from within."

Zelenskyy's decision to replace Syrskyi, a younger general seen as a modernizer, followed a wave of criticism. The former Defense Minister, Mykhailo Fedorov, had previously attributed his own dismissal to a conflict with Syrskyi, accusing the general of authoritarianism and an inability to adapt to the realities of modern warfare, particularly the increasing role of drones.

Syrskyi, in his defense, highlighted the technological advancements achieved by the armed forces under his command. He indirectly criticized Fedorov for holding an unrealistic view of the war.
