Kristians Rozenvalds: I Envy Estonia for Choosing Such a President

Kristians Rozenvalds says he envies Estonia after the country unanimously elected Ille Madise as its new president.

He contrasts Estonia’s decision with the debates continuing in Latvia over the parliamentary elections. He describes those discussions as notably empty and tiresome, focused on who is more responsible, more wrong or likely to steal less.

Rozenvalds also suggests that Latvian media gave the Estonian news limited attention, possibly deliberately. In his view, the comparison could irritate Latvian audiences by highlighting the growing differences between Estonia and Latvia, including their presidents, politicians and societies.
