Kry invoices: Ultimatum forces legal meeting between regions

The Swedish regions of Uppsala and Västra Götaland (VGR) have issued an ultimatum to Sörmland: open Kry's invoices or face legal action. This demand stems from a dispute over payments to the online healthcare provider, with VGR and Uppsala questioning the legitimacy of services billed.

Sörmland, tasked with managing payments to online healthcare providers like Kry, claims it cannot disclose the invoices due to confidentiality. However, Christoffer Öqvist, the chairman of Sörmland's regional executive board, stated that all regions ultimately want the same outcome – to avoid paying for unqualified healthcare.

In essence, we agree, none of us want to pay online healthcare providers for visits we do not consider qualified healthcare.

A meeting of the regions' legal experts is scheduled within days to find a resolution and prevent a court battle. Öqvist explained that while the regions agree on the principle of not paying for unqualified care, the legal framework for sharing invoice details remains unresolved. He likened the situation to inter-regional healthcare billing, where specific patient data is also protected.

What we have not resolved is whether we – legally – can disclose the supporting documents.

Sörmland is conducting its own national review of invoices submitted to online healthcare providers. While the results won't be broken down by region as requested by Uppsala and VGR, they will indicate the proportion of incorrect invoices nationally. Öqvist indicated that if a significant number of invoices are found to be erroneous, Sörmland may pursue recovery claims or consider revoking the providers' licenses.
